Church Ministry’s General Program Annual Celebration Schedule

Watch  Night/New Year’s Service 10:30 p.m. December 31/January 1
We spend the evening of December 31, bringing in the New Year with prayer, song and testimony.  Our services begin at 10:30 p.m. and culminate with the entire congregation and Pastor on bended knee in prayer.
Church’s Annual Business Meeting January
The membership meets with the Pastor and the Official Board in order to review expenditures for the past year and discuss financial plans for the upcoming year.
African American Heritage Month February
We pay tribute to our heritage and ancestors.  As a symbol of our pride, those who choose may attend the Sunday’s Worship Services attired in African dress.
Easter/Resurrection Sunday  March or April
This is one of the two most meaningful days that Christians celebrate.  Resurrection Sunday marks the day that Christ arose after having given his life on the cross on Friday, in order that we might have “…a right to the tree of life” (Revelation 22:14).
Church and Pastor Anniversaries April
The marriage of Church and Pastor is important.  Our celebration includes fellowship with other Churches and Pastors throughout the week.  Members are encouraged to contribute a special thanksgiving offering.  A goal contribute $1.00 for every year of the Church’s existence is suggested.  On the designated Anniversary Sundays we fellowship with dinner in the lower auditorium.  We close each Sunday’s afternoon in an Anniversary Worship Service with a special guest Church and Pastor.
One Holy Day of Sharing  4th Sunday in October
“One Holy Day of Sharing” is a day in which members gift the Church with a Special Offering by setting aside one dollar a day for 365 days.  This should be done cheerfully and in a spirit of thanksgiving.  The practice was adopted from the Mt. Olivet Tabernacle Church of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Rev. M.L. Shepherd, Jr., Pastor.  Upon Dr. Green being the guest preacher on the fourth Sunday in June 1979 the idea was presented to the Church and on October.  1980, Pilgrim held it’s first Holy Day of Sharing.  This special purpose gift each year permitted our mortgage to be “paid in full” early, November 1985.  Since this time, the special gift allowed the Church to offset the cost of time, the special gift allowed the Church to offset the cost of upkeep and maintenance; and special project’s efforts that include:

Restroom for Senior Citizens
Chimes and Organ

Scholarship Benefit Increase
Van & Bus/Transportation
Pastor-Emeritus Day  4th Sunday in November
This day is set aside for our former Pastor, Dr. Charles W. Green, instituted first in November, 1991.  Dr. Green has pastured the Pilgrim Baptist Church more than 38 years before retiring December 1988.  He served as Interim Pastor until April 1990.  We designate this Sunday to honor him for his dedication and service that he faithfully rendered to his “Fathers Children” in the building of God’s Kingdom here in the earth.
New Members Day 1st Sunday in December

This annual day gives New Members for the year an opportunity to host the Pastor and his cabinet with an early morning breakfast.  The day continues for the New Members by having complete care and responsibility of the morning and afternoon “Order of Worship” services with the exception of preaching.

The New Members serve to make up each functioning auxiliary and parts of worship – Worship Leaders, prayers, testimonials, and the conducting of Tithing; Choir, Flower Club, Hospitality Committee, and Ushers.  The New Members are those whom have been received into the church from November of the previous year through October of the current year.

Christmas Day 25th of December
Christmas is the day we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  Beginning our day with Praises to God in Worship, demonstrates our love and thanks to God for sending his Son to redeem us.  The Worship Service is 9:30 a.m.
