Are you ready to discover the profound biblical mandate for holistic health and self-care? We're excited to announce the release of the "Self-Care: Establishing a Biblical Foundation" workshop, originally presented by Rev. M. E. Penman during the Fall Bible Institute (FBI).
God's ultimate plan is for us to be healthy in mind, body, and soul. This workshop provides a foundation for understanding self-care not as a luxury, but as a vital part of serving God and living out your faith.
Understanding the Call to Wholeness
The workshop explores the concept of Sin and Worldly Imbalance, noting that original sin is believed to have disrupted the world's natural harmony, resulting in imperfection, disease, dysregulation, and suffering. However, it encourages us to make the world a better place by being healthy mind, body, spirit, and soul—which is also necessary so that we can be the best we can be in carrying out God's work.
The 8 Dimensions of Self-Care
The workshop breaks down self-care into 8 vital dimensions, providing Scripture and reflection questions for each:
1. Physical Wellness: Caring for your body through rest, exercise, nutrition, and medical care. Scripture reminds us that our body is the temple of the Holy Ghost.
2. Emotional Wellness: Recognizing, expressing, and managing emotions in healthy ways. We are encouraged to cast all our care upon God, for He cares for us.
3. Intellectual Growth: Engaging in activities that stimulate and challenge your mind. This dimension is rooted in the command to be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
4. Social Relationships: Building and maintaining healthy, supportive relationships. "Iron sharpeneth iron," as the scripture says.
5. Spiritual Balance: Nurturing your spirit and connection with God through prayer, worship, and reflection. This is about seeking first the kingdom of God.
6. Financial Balance: Managing money wisely to reduce stress and support long-term stability. The workshop addresses serving God versus serving "mammon" (wealth).
7. Occupational Care: Finding satisfaction and balance in work and daily responsibilities. It emphasizes doing your work heartily, as to the Lord.
8. Environmental Care: Creating surroundings that promote peace, safety, and well-being. This reflects the biblical mandate to "dress it and to keep it" (Genesis 2:15).
