In light of the worsening economic conditions compounded by the recent federal government shutdown and the resulting hardship faced by many families in the Washington, DC area, several community partners are stepping up to provide free food, support, and hope. If you or someone you know is experiencing food insecurity, here are three great opportunities to receive fresh produce, meals, and holiday assistance. ---

🍅 Food & Farm Fridays – Free Vegetables for You! October 31 | 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM | THEARC (Southeast DC)
Every Friday, THEARC Farmers harvest fresh vegetables, fruits, herbs, and flowers from local farms across Southeast DC—and bring them directly to you for free! The Capital Area Food Bank donates thousands of pounds of produce, DC Central Kitchen provides prepared meals, and local partners offer cooking demos, job fairs, and free products.

🦃 Bridging the Gap’s 2nd Annual 1,000 Turkey Giveaway November 15 | 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM | 5200 Silver Hill Road
Bridging the Gap, Inc. is kicking off its 2nd Annual Turkey Giveaway, providing turkeys, oven stuffer chickens, and non-perishable food items to families and seniors across the DMV (DC/MD/VA). **Registration Info:** One (1) turkey or oven stuffer chicken per person, while supplies last. Early arrival is strongly encouraged beginning at 10 AM. This is a ticketed event, make your reservation here:

🧡 Turkey Giveaway at THEARC November 21 | 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM | 1901 Mississippi Avenue SE
Join the team at THEARC and help distribute over 1,300 turkeys to Ward 8 families. Volunteers are needed to pack boxes, hand out food, and welcome community members. This is a wonderful way to give back, connect with your neighbors, and help ensure every family enjoys a complete Thanksgiving meal.
